Common Types of Nail Fungus

Distal Subungual Onychomycosis (DSO) – Most common type – Starts at the tip of the nail and spreads inward – Causes yellowing, thickening, and nail separation
White Superficial Onychomycosis (WSO) – Affects the top layer of the nail – Appears as white, chalky spots – Nail may become brittle and crumbly
Proximal Subungual Onychomycosis (PSO) – Begins at the base of the nail near the cuticle – More common in people with weakened immune systems – Causes white spots that move outward as the nail grows
